Not to start off on a grumpy foot…(hmmm…can feet be grumpy?)
But I had an experience on my way home which demonstrates growing concerns of mine while I am driving – the vindictive nature of people, and the rushed nature of people.
Example 1: I was on the access road, and had a lady so far up my rear that she successfully kept another car from merging into our lane. She kept tailgating me, and when we got onto the freeway, she pulled around me, got into my blind spot and kept me from getting over into the main lanes of the interstate.
Example 2: I was in line at the drive thru today and had a lady honk TWICE at me and/or the person ahead of me to scootch up a bit (I could only move up a bit) so she could yell her precious taco order into the still-too-far-away speaker.
I’m not sure why I am surprised by this type of behavior anymore. I see it constantly while I am driving, especially, and feel the vindictiveness creep up in me, too.
And in terms of this need we have to rush nowadays, what the heck is really the hurry, anyway? If you’re late, you’re late. Does three minutes make THAT much of a difference to your life? If it does, then leave your house earlier, or drive like a normal person and face the consequences for being late.
Driving is, above all, a gift given to us. I wish we would treat it with more respect because ultimately, we are the ones responsible for a 2,500 pound hunk of metal NOT crashing into someone else’s hunk of metal, or home, or flesh. It’s life, people. Get used to sharing the planet with other people.
The way you tell it, Austin sounds as bad as D.C. Guess there is no getting away from rudeness anymore.
By the way, you are now on my links page.
